About Race Ya recorded mid-August 2010 My friend Shawn at some point many years ago lent me an old drum set. It's gold, very sparkly. Very old. He says something about it belonging to a Navy jazz band long ago. His dad somehow wound up with it. And Shawn found it in his attic. It was in bad shape, so he passed it my way to fix up. It has skin drumheads. And is awesome. I took a couple of my old beat-up cymbals and combined them with its old-ness to make a good contrasting drumset to my other modern behemoth. So in a fit of fun, I decided to use this set finally for something. Beat inspired by A Little Less Conversation. Built the song from there. Instrument by instrument. The tempo of it made me call the session "running", which lent to a "race" kind of lyrics. The particular meaning of the words is somewhat inspired by the competition and pace of modern capitalism, in a very simplified sense. Oo. And I used the didgeridoo I got for christmas for the first time! It doesn't cut through perfectly, but it's there during the "chorus". There is video of the recording process on this one. I'm trying out the "lets make videos of me recording, because why not". We'll see how that continues... It's on the shorter-side of songs. Mainly due to it not being written beforehand. Not my favorite, but not bad. I've also decided that the songs are all roughly demo-tape quality. Since my recording skills are not at a professional-level (nor are my performances, necessarily), these are rough cuts. In case you were wondering them or being overly critical...
